EHRHARDT PANZERWAGEN M1917

CAR, ARMOURED, 4X4, MG

The Ehrhardt was an improved version of the M1915 with the addition of dual rear wheels protected by partially armoured wells, armoured headlamps, a serrated grouser-type extension mounted on each front wheel, horizontal armoured radiator louvers and seven machine guns. The Ehrhardt M1917 was powered by an 85-hp engine and had six forward and six reverse gears, four-wheel drive, and it achieved a top speed of 38mph. Armour was 9mm front and rear with 6mm of side armour. The vehicle had two machine guns, one of which was mounted in a rotating turret on top of the vehicle, and a third machine gun in reserve. The crew consisted of the vehicle commander, the driver, one reverse driver, and five or six soldiers and complaints of cramped quarters were frequent, especially if the field radio, which could only be operated when the vehicle was stopped, was fitted.
