| A General Electric 7.62 mm, light-weight, electrical operated, air-cooled 6-barreled gatling gun weighing 35 lbs. (15.9 kg)
empty and 59 lbs. (28.6 kg) with power supply . Length is 31.5 in (800 mm). Aka 'Module' or 'Minigun' and used in the
M134 (M27 system) ground mount as well as in the MXU-470/A mini-gun "Module"s carried on the YOV-10D and A-37
aircraft.
In Vietnam the 20th's {Special Operations Squadron}UH 1Ps were UH 1Fs modified to
accept a pair of GAU 2B/A mini guns, one in each cargo door, and two LAU 59/A
2.75 inch rocket pods mounted to hard points. The mini guns were mounted on a
pintle and could be locked to forward fire positions and fired by the pilot
or could be aimed and fired by gunners in the cabin. The P model Hueys were
used as gunships, flying escort missions for the "slicks". As more of the
20th's F models were modified to accept armament, the difference between the
F and P models became blurred and the designations were used
interchangeably."
The GAU-2B/A mini gun was also used on the Air Force UH-1N and H-3. Today,
it is used on the MH-53J and MH-60G Pave Hawk. It fires 7.62 ammo.
