GBT

ARTILLERY CONVERSION KIT

The GBT turret was designed by Vickers and first shown in 1982. It was designed so that it could be fitted to an existing tank chassis. The turret was fitted with a new-technology 155mm gun tube of ESR steel, 39 calibres long which enabled it to fire standard HE rounds out to a maximum range of 24km. The turret could hold 28 projectiles and 27 charges in its bustle and a manually operated loading aid moved the rounds onto the loading tray where a flick-rammer moved them into the breech. The burst rate of fire was two rounds in eight seconds, three in fifteen seconds or six per minute.
