| The prototype was the M1920E 4.7inch HAA gun which underwent into trials in the US in 1924. This weapon had a muzzle velocity of 2400 fps, and was equipped with a quite
huge high efficiency muzzle brake, at the base of which was a large circular blast deflector. The project was shelved until 1938, and only a handful of prototype guns were
produced in 1942 after the weapon finally introduced in late 1940. It was officially adopted and became the 4.7inch Gun M1 on 27 January 1944 and by the year's end, they
were being issued to CAC AA units.
