The UMM four wheel drive design is based on a french design called the 'Cournil' which was developed by a French farmer who recognised the need for
an all purpose vehicle. This is why some of the parts are of French origin. The engine, transmission, switches and instruments are from Peugeot, the
heater is a Renault part with the remainder being locally manufactured.
Many Umms are in use by utilities in Spain, Portugal and France and are also in use by Police, Fire service and Military.
The model line started with the TRANSCAT which was replaced in the 1980s by the more popular ALTER ( aka ALFOR). This has been redesigned to
become the ALTER II.
