MILITARY & MUSIC

PARTICIPATING IN THE SHOW

Return to top of page YOUR BAND
I am ALWAYS after music! If you can spare any of your recordings I would appreciate it! Don't worry too much about the quality of the recordings as most of the listeners regard a recording made during a parade as more authentic!

If you would like me to feature your band then there is no problem. Eventually I aim to feature a band virtually every week and would appreciate if you could allow me access to a member of your band to record a spot for my show. It need not be you though you are welcome and it can be any member of the band - a volunteer or whoever is currently in the deepest crap with the BandMaster it matters not ;-)

Remember to clear this with your PAO/PI/PR person first.

Generally I prefer pre-recorded items (see below). The format I favour for a individual contribution is that the victim(s)... sorry volunteer(s) is as follows and this can be in the form of questions or the interviewee just talking....

  1. Introduce themselves and tell how they came to be in a military band.
  2. Tell everyone something of the history of the band.
  3. Talk about their most memorable band moment/moments.
  4. Introduce the best piece they think the band play. (Optional and dependant on the availability of a recording)
  5. Introduce a piece of music they particularly like. (Optional and dependant on the availability of a recording)
  6. Talk about what the band is up to in the near future.
  7. End with a short finish/goodbye.
The rules!
  1. No Politics!
  2. No Government Policy!
  3. No Comment on the War on Terrorism though details what you/band did on a tour are okay.
  4. No bad-mouthing!
If you have a band within your band then I would be pleased to feature them and their music (whatever type) as well. The format I would like to follow would be a member introducing the band and then saying a little something about the song/band before doing the piece. It is prefered that these are prerecorded and I can use as many as you are willing to supply and I will use them on a one-a-week basis.

All the prerecorded introductions/interviews will be submitted for your approval before broadcast.

In the event I pay you a visit to do any recording we could devote the entire program to the band and get other members of the band to do the features for their particular program plus anything else the band would like to do.

If you would like we can extend the participation to more members of the band by featuring it for the entire program. In this case you need to consider arranging for the additional members of the band to introduce each piece of the bands music and any of the usual features (see below) that would normally be included in the program.
  1. Introduce the Show and Item 1 (standard intro plus whatever you want to add)
  2. Item 1; Music.
  3. Inrtroduction & Item 2; Joke of the week.
  4. Introduction to Item 3.
  5. Item 3; Music.

Introductions can take the form of the 'introducer' introducing himself and talking a little about his function etc and then telling us a little about the music he is introducing. Saying hello/dedicating to family and friends is encouraged but not compulsary!

Try and get the Bandmaster to do at least one item! Now they will try and get out of this so you may have to tie them to a chair until they give in (or something similar). Blackmail is acceptable as a last resort!

Remember the running time is 90 minutes! This is the length of time the show is actually live but any overruns are still recorded and included in the download available after the show.

Individual contributions are always welcome and can be submitted for use as long as they have a military theme. They should be pre-recorded in the form of a computer sound file or recorded over the telephone.

Submissions by email will be accepted as long as they are short and snappy!

Contact me for our mailing address if you want to send anything by the postal service

Return to top of page PRERECORDING
I much prefer recording the links to the music beforehand and adding the music from a pre-recorded source like a DVD or computer file later. There are several ways that this can be done.
  1. I can visit you and record all the links in one go - this can take a considerable length of time to arrange as, due to the expense, I prefer to do as many locations within a single journey as possible.
  2. I can record your links by telephone - easily done at a time convenient to both of us. Please bear in mind I operate on UK time!
  3. Email me for a telephone number. If you are military it would be preferable for you to call me (your armed forces have a larger telephone budget then me!) I'll phone any private telephone numbers myself.
  4. In all cases when setting up this I will record our conversation so that I can check the quality of the telephone line as some lines to military locations are a tad 'dirty'.
  5. You can record the links yourself using a variety of computer programs (Sound Recorder or WMP) or even a tape recorder and forward them to me.
Files are preferred in WAV, MP3 or WMA format but can also be accepted in other formats.

In all cases you will receive a full electronic copy of the show by email attachment or web link to be cleared by you for transmission.
