| The T8 Mine Exploder system was a series of vertical plunging rods mounted on the front of an M4A4 Medium Tank. The intent of the device was to deliver heavy blows to the
ground as the vehicle advanced, thus detonating any mines. Test started in late 1943 at Aberdeen Proving Grounds (APG) and showed poor effectiveness in exploding mines
and poor maneuverability. Even simplification of the mechanism and reduction of the total number of plungers failed to improve performance and no further development was
recommended by APG. The T8/T8E1 project officially ended on 23 March 1944.
