| This is a multi-span, trestle-supported, scissors-type treadway bridge transported on a variety of wheeled truck chassis and capable of supporting heavy vehicles/tanks.
One bridge set consists of four units with three of the units having the integral-mounted, adjustable trestle legs, while the fourth span, called the far-shore-span is without the
trestle legs. The trestle legs, which are folded and stored underneath each span during transit, can be mechanically adjusted to give the desired deck height - but this must be
done before launching. The bridge can be used singly or as part of a set. It can also be used in conjuction with other types of bridging equipment to overcome a difficult bank
and , if neccessary, it can be laid underwater.
The normal method of operation is for the truck to back into position; a hydraulic launchng girder mounted on the truck-bed then raises the folded span to the vertical position.
With the aid of winches and pulleys, the girder raises, unfolds and straightens the span and then it is lowered with the folding trestle legs swinging into position. Once the
lowering operation is completed; the cables are disconnected, the launching girder is replaced in the travel position and the truck moves away.
The complete four span bridge can be launched in around 45 minutes during the daytime. During the night it usually 60 - 80 minutes though with a well-trained crew this time
can be halved. Retrieval times are of the same duration.
