The first recognition publication was 'Aircraft Recognition - The Inter-Service Journal' which was published under the auspices of ACAS (Training) in collaboration with the
Admiralty, War Office and Ministry of Supply during the Second World War from September 1942 to September 1945. Its successor was the 'Inter-Services Aircraft Recognition
Journal' which started in July 1946 and has been produced monthly every since though it was renamed the 'Joint Services Recgnition Journal' in January 1951. In February 1963
control for the publication passed to the Director of Flying Training. Thirty years later, the title was changed to Defence Recognition Journal, to reflect Tri-Service interest and a
growing international readership.
