MINE, ANTI-HELICOPTER, PLATE CHARGE

This anti-helicopter mine is under development by the Academy of Military Technology (WAT). It is almost undetectable. After remote arming it uses four microphones to detect incoming helicopters and then an IR seeker to aim a warhead. The warhead is a small plate charge type. It carries enough force to punch through 60mm of armour. It will activate when sound source is around 1 km from mine. From 500m it can diferemtiate between various types of sound sources like airship, tank etc. After confirmation of the target type it will open showing two launchers and a passive IR sensor system. It will activate four additional microphones allowing to track chopper movment. Seven microprocessors allow it to calculate the target speed, flight direction, range and even helicopter type. The firing range is 150m and the impact energy is 50MJ which is comparable to tank hitting a wall at 50kph. Both EFP (made of plastic iron) can fit into 1.5m x.1.5m target from the maximum range. It will make fist-sized hole in target . The mine is active for 35 days and can be switched on by using radio waves, electrical signal or laser beam. After that time the battery will need to be replaced. Ten mines can block access to a 80-hectare field.
