| The shielding system ZET-1 [Lit; zaschtschita ekrannaja tankowaja] was developed in 1964. This simple protective system could protect the tanks frontal and sides in a
up to an angle of 25° against shaped-charge projectiles with a maximum caliber of 115mm.
It consisted of a stretchable screen with nets and lateral armor skirts and was intended for use on the T-54, T-55 and T-62. The screens diameter was different for each tank type.
The time for the replacement of the individual screen sections was only 2 minutes.
While a very practical idea for wide open spaces it was a hinderance in wooded areas and the idea was dropped though the flipper-type individual sideplates later resurfaced
on the initial T-72 models.
