Prof. Theodor V. Ionescu carried out his first serious research in high frequences and electromagnetic detection.
1938
Captain ing. Traian zaharescu wrote the first book in romania about radio-navigation with details about LORENZ navigation system used
by romanian air force and airlines.
1940
Mihai Konteschweller wrote the first book for the general public in which she described the magnetron in language that everyone understood.
1942
Prof. Emil Giurgea attempted to build the first romania radar for aa-gun fire control. The project was cancelled in 1944.
1945
The archive of the technical university was totally destroyed by fire.
1952
Romanian Forces equipped with:

1959
The first Romanian unit is equipped with SA-2.
1961
Because the SAM units needed more target data Romania purchased from russia quantities of the P-10, P-12, P-15, P-30 and PRV-10.
1968
Romania carried out research into the possibility of repairing some russian components (especialy magnetrons).
1975
The first romanian radar ME-1974; power=1.2 kw; wave L=3cm; range=1500m (the components are not built in romania).
1984
The first romanian radar built only with romanian components rip-84 or ME-1984; range=2km (project aborted).
1985
X-band radar power 200 kw named RIH-IRIS project aborted.
1986
S-band radar named START-1 can detect target from 20m to 4000m altitude and range at 300 km in use and production the goal was that Romania
would have a replica of Oerlikon-Skyguard (Start-1 with Model-1988 aa-gun and an-95 aa-rocket).
1987
Romaina began to repair russian magnetrons and used again in large number during study for radar used on the first romanian supersonic
jet named IAR-95. In 1988 the project fighter and radar were aborted due to high costs.
1988
The IRIS radar and IAR-95 supersonic fighter, both project had begun in 1979, are cancelled for financial reasons!.
1990
Iar-95 was replaced with Mig-29 and Romania purchased the st-68 3d-radar from Russia.
1998
Start-1 modernize with the help of western firms and named START-1M.
2003
Romania purchased Lockeed-Martin radars. Two will be assembled in the USA, all others assembled in Romania.
2003
Romania purchased from the UK two Type-22 frigates (Coventry and London) they will upgraded with asistance from UK(radar/sonar).
