| After World War Two the Belgian Army was equipped with a variety of British and American SMGs. The army wanted to replace them with a modern native design so it held
tests between a number of competing designs. The winner was the Vigneron, designed by retired Belgian Army Colonel, Georges Vigneron. It was officially adopted by the
Belgian Army in 1953.
