| The RDF/LT had its origins in the HSTV(L) program of the late 1970s and basically consisted of the HSTV(L) chassis mated
with a new unmanned turret incorporating the 75mm ARES gun. This was a 19.9t vehicle and it was claimed eight could be carried in a C-5, two in a C141 and one in a C130.
The CH-47 and CH-53 could also carry the RDF/LT as an underslung load.
The original prototype had a two-man crew but later prototypes increased the crew to three and added a more conventional turret with a position for a driver.
