The L1E3 was an experimental amphibious tank buitl during 1939, using components of the Vickers Light Tanks. It performed reasonable well in the water
for a vehicle of this type but its weak point was when it emerged or entered the water.
The L1E3 was larger in size but weighed less than the Vickers 5.2tons at 4.4tons as the armour was considerably thinner.
The vehicle originally has solid roadwheels all round and two top rollers each side but at some stage during the testing one top roller was removed and
spokes wheels substituted on the front suspension unit and this is how it looks today in the Tank Museum at Bovington.
