| By the end of the 1970's it was becoming increasingly difficult to find spare parts for the Brazilian M3 fleet, so a decision was made to modernise part of
the M3A1 fleet. and these vehicles were known as the X1-A or CC MB1 (Lit: Combat Car, Brazilian Model No. 1) They remained in service until the 1990's.
A small batch of vehicles was modernised to the X1-A1 standard which had a longer chassis and this vehicle was the base for the completely new X1A2
or CC MB2 (Lit: Combat Car, Brazilian Model No. 1) series of light tanks constructed after 1980.

X1-A [Mortar] - APC version fitted with 120mm mortar.
X1-A [Repair] - APC version configured as a repair vehicle.
X1-A1 - Lengthened chassis and redesigned turret but retaining the F1 gun.
X1-A2 - Redesigned turret fitted with Cockerill 90mm gun.
XLF-40 - Multi-barrel rocket launcher version utilising Avibras rockets.
