| The P-284M is based on the AT-LM light artillery tractor chassis and is used to lay cables in the field. It is equipped with a device for winding or reel-out of a cable on/off a drum
and a cable-laying trailer designed bury the cable in the ground or recover it when cableis no longer needed.
The vehicle can lay the cable on the ground at speeds upto 5kph or bury it at 4kph. The cable can be surface recovered at 5kph or 3kph if buried. It carries 3km of cable and the
weight of the vehicle with a full load of cable is 9500kg with the trailer weighing an additional 1200kg. The crew is 5 men.
The P-284M can only lay/bury cable and any switches/links are emplaced by the P-278 drill-crane vehicle or manually.
