| The XM523 series was the result of a requirement during the 1970s for a new heavy equipment transporter. Unusually the first two vehicles were built by Kenworth with
International Harvester proving the third. Due to use of commercial components the vehicles were rather high and, eventually none of them were accepted for service.

XM523 - Original prototype based on Kenworth Model 522.
XM523E1 - Improved short but taller version with larger radiator.
XM523E2 - Prototype based on International Harvester Model 8066.

- Three-axle truck with prominent circular fuel tank in gap between 2nd & 3rd axles.
